Our Career Peer Educators are available every day and no appointment is necessary!

 

Registration on the Experience York (the Career Centre’s online job posting and registration system) is required for all appointments. No registration is required to drop by.

Job Search Support

Do you need support with your job search—either your career job after graduation or a part-time or summer job while you’re at York? Are you unsure of how to develop your strategy? Do you need feedback on your resumé or interview practice? The Career Centre offers specialized appointments to support you in your job search.

Job Search Advising

Discuss job search resources and strategies, get ideas about how to expand your network, find out how to enhance your LinkedIn profile, or get tips for an upcoming interview.

Can’t make it to campus? This session can also be conducted via email, Skype or telephone! Book a 30-minute Job Search Advising appointment to discuss one of the following:

  • resources for finding jobs
  • effective job search strategies
  • ideas on how to expand your network
  • feedback on your LinkedIn profile
  • tips to help with an upcoming interview
  • help with determining your next steps
  • answer specific questions regarding your Resumé or Cover Letter (due to time limitations, it is not possible to provide a complete Resumé or Cover Letter feedback session. If you would like more assistance with your Resumé or Cover Letter, please attend the Resumé & Cover Letter Writing workshop.)

These appointments are typically conducted in person but can be conducted via telephone. To book a telephone Job Search Advising appointment, please contact the Career Centre at 416-736-5351 at least 1 full business day (24 hours) prior to your scheduled appointment to inform us of your preference.

Please note: In order to ensure all York students access to job search advising and due to increasing demand for this service, the Career Centre must limit students to a maximum of two job search advising appointments per academic year.

 

Resumé or Cover Letter Feedback Session

Once you have completed the Resumé & Cover Letter Writing workshop, you are eligible to book a 30-minute, one-on-one Resumé or Cover Letter Feedback Session. You can book this appointment online after attending the workshop. Bring a hard copy of either your resumé or cover letter to be reviewed by a Career Educator.

Please note: In order to ensure all York students access to Resumé or Cover Letter Feedback Sessions and due to increasing demand for this service, the Career Centre must limit students to a maximum of six Resumé or Cover Letter Feedback Sessions per academic year.

Interview Practice Session

Polish your interview skills and increase your confidence in this 30-minute session of practice and feedback. Come in person and receive a videotaped copy of your session (if requested) or attend via Skype.

In this one-on-one session you can:

  • Integrate your learning from the Job Search and Networking Strategies
  • Undergo an evaluation of your videotaped interview
  • Identify areas of strength and weakness
  • Develop strategies for improving your interview performance

These appointments are typically conducted in person but can be conducted via telephone or Skype. To book a telephone or Skype Interview Practice Session, please contact the Career Centre at 416-736-5351 at least one full business day (24 hours) prior to your scheduled appointment to inform us of your preference.

Career Counselling (First Appointment Only)

Are you having difficulty deciding on a career path? Are you unsure how your degree may relate to your future career? To discuss your career concerns, meet with one of our Career Counsellors.

Your first Career Counselling appointment is a 20-minute session booked online and additional session(s) are 50-minutes. If you are already working with a Career Counsellor at the Career Centre, please book your follow up appointments by selecting the Career Counselling (by referral only) appointment on Experience York.

If you would like assistance with your Resumé or Cover Letter, please attend the Resumé & Cover Letter Writing workshop as Resumés and Cover Letters cannot be reviewed during career counselling.

Individual Career Counselling appointments can be booked up to three weeks in advance and appointments are released on Experience York (the Career Centre’s online job posting and registration system). Appointments may also become available throughout the week due to cancellations.
