Individual Appointments

Appointments are released on the Career Centre's online system every Friday at 4:00 pm for the following week (except Career Counselling and Résumé or Cover Letter Feedback Session appointments, which cannot be booked online). Appointments may also become available throughout the week due to last-minute cancellations.

Registration on the Career Centre's online system is required for all appointments (you must sign up for an account on the system before you will be able to register for any appointments).

Career Consult

Not sure where to start? You can meet with a Career Counsellor for a 20-minute Career Consult to get help determining your next step(s), including which services best meet your needs. A Career Consult is a one-time appointment during which you will have the opportunity to briefly discuss your career concerns. The Career Counsellor may then provide you with a referral to another of the Career Centre's workshops or resources or a more in-depth Career Counselling appointment. Approximately 8 Career Consult appointments are released every week.

Please note: Résumés and cover letters cannot be reviewed during a Career Consult. If you would like assistance with your résumé or cover letter, please attend the Résumé & Cover Letter Writing workshop.


Career Counselling

Do you feel challenged moving forward with your career exploration? To discuss these career concerns, meet with one of our Career Counsellors. Access to the Career Counselling service is by a referral through a 20-minute Career Consult appointment. Counselling appointments cannot be booked online.

Please note: In order to ensure all York students access to career counselling and due to increasing demand for these appointments, the Career Centre must limit students to a maximum of six career counselling appointments per academic year.


Job Search Advising

Discuss job search resources and strategies, get ideas about how to expand your network, find out how to enhance your LinkedIn profile, or get tips for an upcoming interview.
Can’t make it to campus? This session can also be conducted via email, Skype or telephone! Book a 30-minute Job Search Advising appointment to discuss one of the following:

  • resources for finding jobs
  • effective job search strategies
  • ideas on how to expand your network
  • feedback on your LinkedIn profile
  • tips to help with an upcoming interview
  • help with determining your next steps
  • answer specific questions regarding your résumé or cover letter (due to time limitations, it is not possible to provide a complete résumé or cover letter feedback session. If you would like more assistance with your résumé or cover letter, please attend the Résumé & Cover Letter Writing workshop.)

These appointments are typically conducted in person but can be conducted via telephone. To book a telephone Job Search Advising appointment, please contact the Career Centre at 416-736-5351 at least 1 full business day (24 hours) prior to your scheduled appointment to inform us of your preference.

Interview Practice Session

Polish your interview skills and increase your confidence in this 30-minute session of practice and feedback. Come in person and receive a videotaped copy of your session, or attend via Skype.

Résumé or Cover Letter Feedback Session

Once you have completed the Résumé & Cover Letter Writing workshop, you are eligible to book a 30-minute, one-on-one Résumé or Cover Letter Feedback Session. Bring a hard copy of either your résumé or cover letter to be reviewed by a Job Search Advisor. After you have attended the Résumé & Cover Letter Writing workshop, please call the Career Centre at 416-736-5351 or visit us in person at 202 McLaughlin College to book your appointment. The receptionist will verify that you have attended the Résumé & Cover Letter Writing workshop prior to booking an appointment for you. Résumé or Cover Letter Feedback Sessions cannot be booked online.

To change the format of your Résumé or Cover Letter Feedback Session, please contact the Career Centre by telephone at 416-736-5351 at least one full business day (24 hours) prior to your scheduled appointment to inform us of your preference.

Rapid Résumé Review

Life too hectic to make it to a résumé workshop? Attend this 15-minute résumé review and get the quick fix you’ve been looking for! We also offer Rapid Résumé Reviews during our Career Fairs and Volunteer Fair – register with us at careers.yorku.ca/online-system to book your appointment. Don't forget to bring a paper copy of your résumé. Each student may book only one Rapid Résumé Review appointment per day.

Post Grad Application Support Session

If you are planning to continue your education with a college diploma, professional certification or graduate school degree, this 30-minute individual appointment will provide feedback and tips on preparing your CV or résumé and statement of interest, asking for references and selecting programs that will meet your expectations.
