About RMHC Toronto:
Since 1981, RMHC Toronto has provided a home away from home for families with seriously ill children undergoing treatment. We accommodate 81 families in our House and operate seven Family Rooms in five hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area and in Sudbury, ensuring families can stay close to their children during challenging times.
Mission:
Our mission is to support the health and well-being of children and their families by providing a compassionate and supportive environment that alleviates the financial and emotional burdens associated with serious childhood illness.
Programs and Services: We offer over 20 programs designed to provide families with comfort, care, and a sense of normalcy. These include educational programs at the RMHC Toronto School, wellness activities, and support services aimed at fostering a nurturing community.

Volunteering: Volunteers are the heart of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto, playing a crucial role in supporting families with seriously ill children. Our volunteers help create a compassionate and supportive environment, ensuring that families can stay close to their children during challenging times.
Eligibility Criteria: To ensure the safety and well-being of the families we serve, we have specific requirements for our volunteers:
• A current Vulnerable Sector Police Check
• Three current references
• Attendance at a hospital orientation (for Family Room volunteers only)
• Completed MMR and 2-Step TB Test within the last 6 months (for Family Room volunteers)
• A weekly commitment for a minimum of 6 months
• Volunteers must be 18 years or older to volunteer at the House or in our Family Rooms

Recruiting for: Volunteer Roles and Shift Schedules:
1. Family Room Volunteers:
o Locations: Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga; Scarborough Health Network; SickKids Hospital; Markham Stouffville Hospital; Health Sciences North, Sudbury.
o Role Description: Volunteers support families by creating a welcoming atmosphere, offering refreshments, and assisting as needed.
o Shift Schedule: 3-hour shifts from 9am to 9pm, with a commitment of at least one session per week for a minimum of 6 months.
2. Family Service Support Volunteers:
o Location: RMHC Toronto House, 240 McCaul Street (onsite).
o Role Description: Volunteers provide exceptional customer service at the Reception Desk, assist the Family Service Team with tasks like providing House Tours, supply stocking, answering phone calls, registering families etc.
o Shift Schedule: 3-hour shifts from 9am to 9pm, with a commitment of at least one session per week for a minimum of 6 months.
3. Activity Program Volunteers:
o Book Club n’ Crafts: Facilitate storytelling and creative arts projects.
Commitment: Weekly shift every Sunday from 12:30 PM-2:00 PM for a minimum of 6 months.
o Child Life Program: Support play-based experiences and educational activities.
Commitment: Weekly shift on Tuesday from 2:30 PM-5:00 PM or Thursday from 3:30 PM-6:00 PM for a minimum of 6 months.
o Coffee Talk: Support self-care activities promoting social connection and well-being.
Commitment: Weekly shift every Wednesday from 3:30 PM-6:00 PM for a minimum of 6 months.
o Other Programs: Kids Gym, Circle Time, Artworx, PAWS, Bakers and Shakers, and Food Prep Programs. Each program has different shift schedules.
