Always wanted to start your own business or work for yourself? Curious about what a career at a start-up might look like? Want to meet York Alumni and other professionals working as entrepreneurs or in brand new companies?
Connect with professionals currently enjoying careers in entrepreneurship & start-ups and get the inside scoop on what this kind of work is really like. During this panel professionals will share their personal stories about starting out in their careers, how their career paths took them from graduation to where they are now, what knowledge, skills and experience helped them succeed in their work and what types of opportunities are available to those following similar paths. The panel will be moderated by one of the Career Centre's team members and followed by an open forum where students will have an opportunity to ask the panelists their own questions.

Jimmy’s vision for Odyssey3D began from a trip to Israel to study technology entrepreneurship. Since graduating from the Schulich School of Business, He was the winner of Schulich’s 2016 Start-Up Day and has since brought his project to the market to launch the award winning real estate start up Odyssey3D.
Amanda Coombs

I was impassioned to create Back2Basickz because I had engaged with so many people that were looking for second chances and opportunities to do better. There was a high demand for not just programs but the access and knowledge of existing academic, social and mental support programs for youth who have been involved in the Criminal Justice System.
Having experienced similar circumstances as many of the youth who come into the program, it became a personal mission for me to not have anyone struggle or fall back into the same place simply because they are unable to find the help and resources needed to improve their lives. It is our organizations goal to encoiurage all our participants to realize their potential.

In April 2014, I graduated from York University and in April 2015, I graduated from Seneca College in the Event Marketing - Sports, Entertainment, Arts program, with honours. Since graduating, I have worked as a Business Development Coordinator at T1 (formally known as TrojanOne), and most recently a Sr. PR & Marketing Associate at ChizComm Ltd. In the spring of 2017, I Co-Founded Swob Inc., a mobile recruitment application.
Haman Mamdouhi

Haman Mamdouhi is a community developer heavily involved at the intersection of healthcare, governance, and innovation. He is a Next 36 semi-finalist, which selects the top young entrepreneurs from all across Canada. He is the founder of Health-Bridge, a start-up dedicated to eliminating the language barrier in health care. His project has been selected as one of thirteen from around the world by the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, was the first Canadian team to ever win the Engineering World Health Competition from a competitive profile of international projects, and have earned him awards from Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) and the Institute for Global Health Equity & Innovation (IGHEI) for his social innovations improving equity in the healthcare system.
Abroad he acts as an ambassador of Canadian culture, and with his knowledge of multiple languages navigates cultural barriers to foster dialogue around a global identity. His global advocacy has garnered him recognition for bilateral research between Canada & France for research on antibiotic resistance and from the Italian Embassy Cultural Institute as a bursary to promote volunteerism & community in Italy.
Haman is currently an advisor to the MP for Don Valley West on Matters of Youth, and is a research assistant with the Trauma & Neurosurgery Department at St Michael’s Hospital. He has previously sat on Glendon's Faculty Council advocating for mental health and a competitive curriculum and has supported multiple youth-led community improvement initiatives driving positive change through the Hamilton Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council.
