FAQ: Career Centre Services During Covid-19

If you have questions pertaining to your academics or other services and supports on campus, please visit York University’s information page at https://coronavirus.info.yorku.ca/

Is the Career Centre still supporting students?
Yes! But for the safety of our community, the Career Centre has moved our support online until further notice. We can still help you with career exploration, further education applications, and job searches! Read on to find out how!

Is the Career Lounge still operating?
Yes! But not in person. Our Career Peer Educators continue to work hard to ensure you’re able to drop-in with your career questions—virtually! You can now connect with a Career Peer Educator via Zoom during Virtual Lounge hours. Check out our Career Lounge page to find out how!
Please note: Friday, April 3 is the last day for the Virtual Career Lounge this term. We will see you soon in the next term.

Can I still attend a workshop?
All workshops have been converted to webinars so you can participate remotely. You can register for a webinar the same way you register for an in-person workshop. All you need in order to attend a webinar is a computer with an internet connection and speakers. To see the schedule and register for a webinar, check out our monthly calendar!

Are employer recruitment and networking events cancelled?
Career Centre employer and alumni events have already concluded for the academic year. Our big events (Career Fairs, Volunteer Fair, etc) are still scheduled for fall-winter 2020-21 and you can check here for dates and exhibitors. We’re currently in the process of setting up some online employer/alumni connection activities and will keep everyone informed on our website and via our monthly e-newsletter.

Are employers still hiring?
Employers continue to post jobs on our online job posting system, though the hiring processes may have changed during the current coronavirus situation so it’s important to read any postings carefully. Every employer is handling things slightly differently so make sure you follow each employer’s specific instructions when applying for opportunities.

Are individual appointments cancelled?
Our Career Counsellors and Career Educators are still conducting appointments, but remotely only. You can register online here.

Can I talk to a Career Centre team member without an appointment?
Yes! You can visit our Virtual Career Lounge during Lounge hours and connect via Zoom with one of our highly trained and knowledgeable Career Peer Educators. Check our website to find out which team members are holding sessions and when.

Who can answer my question(s) at the Career Centre?
If you have a question and can’t attend a Zoom session, you can email the Career Centre and we will respond to your question within two business days.
