Community Manager, Staples Canada
My job has 3 pillars. Sales, Operations, and Community. I am responsible for managing one of Staples Canada's four coworking spaces. I am responsible for hitting the revenue targets of the space, the day to day operations, as well as building community with the users of the space.
What factors led you to enter your current field of work?
I’ve always enjoyed and thrived in social environments. Upon graduating from York University, I explored a career in sales and it has been a part of me ever since. Throughout the years I joined many public speaking communities and attended many seminars and networking events. Through building my network I found out about this opportunity, and I was able to start working in my current field of work.
What does success mean to you?
I think success is about having a genuine passion for doing what you do, and knowing that there is a deep purpose for your work. If you are happy to take on the challenges of your work, and enjoy the challenges, that to me is success.
If you weren’t in your current professional role, what would you be doing?
I really enjoy traveling, and I love the arts. If I could travel the world and check out all the local arts in each country across the world that would be a dream come true.
How do you build and maintain your professional network, and how has this benefited your career?
I always collect business cards everywhere I go, and I make sure to be active on LinkedIn with those in my network. I also love to connect people, it fulfills me. I enjoy being part of people’s stories, and if that means building a bridge in their professional career, then I am happy. "The Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell really taught me a lot.
What are the strategies you use to remain resilient during challenging situations?
I always aim to put things into perspective. Perspective to me is everything, how you see things can really change your life trajectory. I always try to find the silver lining in each life situation. I believe having a list of pros and cons for each situation can also be very helpful.
