When I was an undergrad, I had my heart set on teaching. I still do, but life took me to other adventures. I’ve met incredible people along the way, and have a career that is much different than what I could’ve ever imagined. I want to share the lessons I’ve learned, and be a support to a young person, because I know firsthand, and also through my experience as a Recruiter, how difficult it is to navigate today’s world. If sharing my experience can help even one person, then I’m absolutely willing!

Hello everyone! It's been 10 years I have been away from Canada and in Oct 2017, I've finally moved back to a place I considered home. I grew up in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada, Toronto 20 years ago to continue my high school and university studies. As soon as I graduated from York, I moved back to Hong Kong to start my career in digital advertising, focusing on digital marketing and media sales. I've always been passionated about digital marketing or in general everything tech related and have previously worked at Microsoft, Kenshoo and Facebook before joining Google Hong Kong 2 years ago and have recently transferred to Google Canada in the Toronto office.

I'm looking forward to meeting and sharing my experiences to those who are interested in starting a career in the digital marketing or advertising field.

It's always valuable to give back! As someone who was eager to get their career started upon my graduation, I hustled to meet with anyone I could in the fields of work I desired to build a career in. The knowledge, insight and connections I made in those lunches/coffees were all huge stepping stones to getting to where I am today and I always love returning the favour to like minded students. I took an unconventional path to where I am today. I started at York in 2009 in Law & Society, thinking I would be a lawyer, then decided that wasn't for me and pursued a career in Sport Management in College. That lead me to working for the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games, Hockey Canada and the NHL. I then decided I wanted to finish my degree and took a different focus in Business & Society. Upon my graduation in 2017, I landed a job here at TIFF and I'm enjoying the ride. If you have a passion for the business of sports, entertainment, marketing, sponsorship or business development, I'd love to give you all the knowledge I have and watch you succeed into a successful professional! I've been through hundreds of interviews and have been dealt with plenty of rejection. Those experiences are what has lead me to where I am today, and I always tell that to students. Bio

I graduated from York in 2011 with a Bachelor of Commerce. I didn't know which field to specialize in but knew I had to differentiate myself so I pursued additional qualifications in project management because I knew this discipline could be applied in any business function. As I progressed through my career I also gained an interest in finance and ended up in roles which allowed to utilize both my project management background as well as my experience in finance. I am a big believer in developing yourself personally and professionally and always look for new challenges.

One thing I've always been passionate about is making meaningful connections with other individuals. I've always loved sharing my experience and utilizing my skills in order to help people achieve their objectives. Although Computer Security is usually viewed as a heavy and technically focused major, I wanted to utilize this technical expertise and bridge the gap in order to help other organizations know how to best integrate security at the forefront of the highly technical future we're currently involved with. During my undergrad, I focused a lot of my time on academics and extracurriculars that involved communication and leadership skills (such as being a senior don/resident advisor, leading a tutoring service, TA-ing, and academic research). I can help you if this is something you're looking for guidance with, or if you're interested in knowing how to integrate a technical major in a less technical setting. If you're unsure, feel free to reach out with any questions prior to scheduling some time if you'd like to see if meeting would be beneficial for you!

When entering the Law and Society Program in 2012 at York University, I was unsure about the career path that I would embark on upon graduation. Within my first few weeks at York University, it quickly became clear that I was deeply passionate about making a meaningful contribution to society through social policy and law. I set high expectations for myself and made a sincere promise that I would stay true to my passion and goals. Here I am 7 years later. I am working in a dream job as a policy analyst where the impact of my work directly contributes to the betterment of society.

I have been in my role for approximately 2 years and the many of my job duties consist of maintaining the recruitment infrastructure that allows for a seamless experience for candidates, hiring managers, and HR Business Partners. A lot of the information I learned in employment law is applied to day-to-day activities.

I learned from an early age that I wanted to be in a profession that helped people. I knew that going into the HR field, I could impact the culture of a workplace, and meet new and interesting people, match candidates to a role that fulfills their career goals, learning how important people are to a thriving business, and contributing to creating diversity and inclusion within the workplace. This is what I enjoy, and this is what I'm passionate about.
