My experience as an Investigator at the Office of the Ontario Ombudsman has taught me a few things. No question that a solid commitment to continuing education is important to starting and thriving in a career. Very closely connected to that, I believe, is active participation in the voluntary and civic sectors. One of the adjectives I use to describe my career is "serendipitous." I am confident that were it not for my involvement in various voluntary and civic activities to complement my education, my career would not be where it is today so soon after graduation. In a job market saturated with highly educated job seekers, I firmly believe that developing skills outside of the classroom will better prepare young graduates to get that first job. It did for me.
