When I graduated from York with a degree in health studies, pursuing a masters in social work was the last thing on my mind. I left York hoping to get paid from the business/economic side of the healthcare system and now I practice forensic mental health social work, a field where the criminal justice and healthcare systems meet.
From my experience, I think landing a position in a field that satisfies both your professional interests and salary expectations requires a balance of planning and spontaneity, from both an academic and employment perspective.
