PhD History, 2001

Do you often get questions about your field of study? Does your grandmother worry that you will never find a job? I am a historian by training who has worked both at the university and in government. Technically I am not doing anything related to history, but I use many of the skills I learned in university. Today I am a public servant with a passion for evidence-based decision making. I believe that decisions should be based on the best evidence available, including research as well as contributions from stakeholders and people with lived experience, and should be constantly monitored and reevaluated. My PhD and subsequent 11 years working in university and government have helped me with this work while honing my analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
