Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the TASTE (Take A Student To Eat) Program. TASTE offers students an opportunity to talk with a York alumna/us and professionals about career-related interests. The program pairs two students with a York grad over an informal lunch or coffee setting.
Requirements of alumni participants
Participating in TASTE doesn't mean you have to have all of the answers about a particular career area or industry. We only ask that you be willing to share your personal career experiences and knowledge with students and new grads (up to 2 years after graduation) and answer, to the best of your ability, questions about your job, industry, sector and/or organization. You must also agree to the following:
- choosing a venue for lunch or coffee (preferably in the GTA so that students can travel easily)
- paying for lunch or coffee for two students
- completing the TASTE online application form which includes providing a bio for the TASTE web page
- completing an evaluation of the TASTE program and your experience
Requirements of student participants
Only York students and new grads (up to two years after graduation) are eligible to participate in TASTE. Students must complete an online form and include a description of why they chose to have a meeting with a particular York alumna/us or professional and what they hope to gain from their TASTE experience. They are also required to attend one of three professional etiquette workshops prior to their meeting. Student will be asked to complete an evaluation of their TASTE experience.
Your name and bio as well as the date you are willing to take two students to lunch or coffee will appear on the TASTE website as per the information you provide in the TASTE Alumni/ Professional Participation Form. If you have also agreed to provide a company tour, the time of the company tour will be posted on the website. Students will complete an online form indicating the name of the alumni with whom they would like to have a meeting and the reasons for choosing that particular professional. The Career Centre will verify that the student has completed the eligibility requirements to participate in TASTE. Once the students' have completed all eligibility requirements, you will receive an e-mail notification from the Career Centre confirming your meeting date, location and the names of the two students with whom you will be meeting. Please note that York University does not screen student participants in the TASTE Program and assumes no responsibility for the quality or outcome of your participation in the TASTE Program.
Contact information that is not published on the TASTE website (e-mail, telephone, location of lunch, etc.) will only be given to students once they have completed the eligibility requirements for participating in TASTE. The Career Centre may contact you following your meeting to ask you to provide a testimonial for the TASTE website and/or other materials used in promotion of the program. All information you hear or obtain from the students must be kept strictly confidential by you indefinitely unless disclosure is permitted by the students or is required by law.
