Professional Organizations & Associations in Entrepreneurship

Professional organizations and associations are an excellent way to learn more about a career of interest, professional designations, and networking opportunities (e.g. memberships, conferences). For additional professional associations visit Career Cruising (login information can be found on the home page of the Career Centre's online system)and search under the "Other Resources" tab within the occupation of your choice (e.g. “entrepreneur”).

Canada Business Network: find business-related information and services at this federal government site. Click on “Starting A Business” to learn more.

Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF): this organization provides business assistance to Canadian youth. Look in the Entrepreneurs section for information on obtaining loans and getting connected with a mentor.

Canadian Franchise Association: the CFA promotes excellence in franchising and educates Canadians about franchising and specific franchise opportunities through its many events, programs and publications.

Invest Ottawa: carries out initiatives which help businesses develop and grow. Their Business Acceleration division provides services ranging from helping budding entrepreneurs get their small business ideas off the ground, to an innovation acceleration service for technology companies.

Junior Achievement of Canada (JACAN): a non-profit organization that delivers business education programs and a free mentoring program to young people across the country. For activities in your province, see the Programs section of their website.

The Canadian Social Entrepreneurship Foundation: a social entrepreneur is someone who wishes to organize, create, and manage a venture to make social change. The CSEF facilitates access to grants, information and contacts for budding social entrepreneurs.
